Where to show up

Core channels get most of the hours. Support channels get a little. The rest can wait until the core ones work.

ChannelRoleWhy
YouTubeCoreYouTube is the largest social source for both finviz.com and stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop), and 84% of US adults use it (Pew 2026). It fits screen-share walkthroughs of a tool on real data. Caution: YouTube does not monetise AI personas posing as human experts on financial advice (YouTube Help 2026).
XCoreX is the second social source for finviz.com and stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop). 31% of US adults aged 18-29 and 20% of those aged 30-49 use X (Pew 2026). Financial Services brands doubled their engagement rate and nearly doubled posting on X (Rival IQ 2025 report). Risk: in the UK any post can be a promotion (FCA 2024), so the brand account posts data, not calls.
InstagramSupport79% of US adults aged 18-29 and 64% of those aged 30-49 use Instagram (Pew 2026). Carousels took the lead in engagement for Financial Services brands on Instagram, even though Reels were posted more than twice as often (Rival IQ 2025 report). Use it for education and data, never for calls to invest: risk text has to sit inside the post, not only in the caption (FCA 2024).
RedditSupportRetail investors talk and ask for tools here: r/wallstreetbets about 20.4M, r/stocks about 9.4M, r/investing about 3.5M, r/algotrading about 1.9M, r/dividends about 914k members (GummySearch Oct 2026). Members of r/wallstreetbets ask for tools and new brokers (GummySearch Oct 2026), and Reddit is the third social source for stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026). In the UK, tips traded on Reddit can be a regulated promotion if you have a commercial interest (FCA 2024).
Email newsletterSupportA weekly data digest builds the habit that wins this niche: 78.39% of finviz.com and 65.42% of stockanalysis.com desktop visits are direct (Similarweb Sep 2026). No source measures newsletter conversion for investing tools, so treat it as retention. Keep it a publication: general, regular and impersonal, which is the shape the 'bona fide publication' exclusion in US adviser law describes (15 USC 80b-2; Lowe v. SEC 1985).
TikTokSkip65% of US adults aged 18-29 use TikTok (Pew 2026), but no 2025-26 source found shows investing tools winning users there, and the FCA judges a dynamic promotion as a whole and expects a balanced view of benefits and risks inside it (FCA 2024), which is hard to meet in 15-second video (reasoning). Who buys and how they choose

Self-directed retail investors, from first-time app users in their 20s and 30s to long-time dividend and value investors in their 50s and 60s. They want the whole portfolio in one place, a faster way to screen stocks, a check on whether a signal or a finfluencer's picks actually worked, and no hype. The UK FCA notes that more consumers turn to social media for investment information and that they show high trust in finfluencers even though the advice can mislead (FCA 2024), so a tool that shows its data, its dates and its limits stands out.

Trigger: a market drop or jump, an earnings print, a new brokerage account, tax time, a bad tip or a friend's screenshot. Research takes hours to a few days and happens on free tiers. One person decides, pays by card monthly or yearly, and stays while the data looks trustworthy. Price sensitivity is high; typical paywall points are exports, saved screens, alerts and history depth (product pattern, not measured). Habit decides the winners: 78.39% of finviz.com and 65.42% of stockanalysis.com desktop visits are direct (Similarweb Sep 2026). Freemium subscription apps convert about 2.1% of downloads to paid at the median (RevenueCat 2026).

Where buyers find businesses like this

  • Google search on tasks, tickers and tool names ('stock screener', 'stock comparison', '[ticker] dividend history') — stockanalysis.com gets 99.71% of its keyword traffic from organic results and ranks for 65.1K keywords; its top queries include 'stock comparison' and a dividend-history page (Similarweb Sep 2026, estimate). finviz.com ranks for 36.7K keywords, led by its brand name and 'finviz stock screener' (Similarweb Sep 2026).
  • Direct visits from habit — 78.39% of finviz.com and 65.42% of stockanalysis.com desktop visits are direct (Similarweb Sep 2026). A new tool has to earn repeat use before it earns this.
  • YouTube walkthroughs and explainers — YouTube is the largest social source for both finviz.com and stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop). 84% of US adults and 95% of those aged 18-29 use YouTube (Pew 2026).
  • X (FinTwit) — X is the second social source for both sites (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop). 31% of US adults aged 18-29 and 20% of those aged 30-49 use X (Pew 2026).
  • Reddit finance communities — Reddit is the third social source for stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026). Members of r/wallstreetbets ask for tools and new brokers (GummySearch Oct 2026). 40% of US adults aged 18-29 and 35% of those aged 30-49 use Reddit (Pew 2026).
  • Links from other finance sites — Referrals are the third channel for stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026; share not shown).
  • App Store and Google Play search (apps only) — No 2025-26 store-search benchmark was found. Apple says apps for trading, investing or money management should be submitted by the licensed financial institution (Apple App Review Guidelines 3.2.1(viii), 2026), so check eligibility before any store plan.

The first 90 days

  1. Week 1

    Map your perimeter in writing.

Data and tools only, or also alerts, picks, trade execution or referral fees? Which countries? Get a one-to-two-hour counsel review for the US (adviser status; Marketing Rule if relevant) and for the UK and EU if you serve them.

  2. Week 1

    Write a claims policy.

Banned: guaranteed, 'beat the market', returns promises, 'AI-powered' unless true. Required: a source and 'as of' date on every number, a risk line on every post that discusses an investment, a conflict line wherever you earn from a link.

  3. Weeks 1-2

Publish 'How our numbers work': data sources, delays, formulas, what you do not cover and how you make money.

  4. Weeks 2-4

Hand-build three deep pages (a screener explainer, a portfolio-tracking set-up, a dividend or ETF comparison) with your own calculations.

Then template 20-50 data pages that each add something free sources lack.

  5. Weeks 2-4

Record four screen walkthroughs on real, dated data and cut eight Shorts.

Embed each walkthrough on its matching page.

  6. Weeks 3-12

X: one chart each weekday and 20 minutes of data replies; a private list of 50 educators and analysts; no calls.

  7. Weeks 3-12

Reddit: 30 days of sourced answers with no links.

Read each sub's rules and write them into your playbook. Add a link only where the rules say yes.

  8. Weeks 4-6

Start the weekly digest from public screens.

Put a sign-up on every page. Use one free tool as the lead magnet (earnings calendar, dividend calendar or a tax-lot template).

  9. Weeks 4-8

App store page, if you ship an app: honest title and subtitle with the tasks people search ('stock screener', 'portfolio tracker'), screenshots with dated data and no performance promises. Check Apple 3.2.1(viii) and your licences before submitting. Ask for ratings after a success moment (saved screen, imported portfolio), not after a loss.

  10. Weeks 4-8

Publish five broker export and import guides for the brokers your users name most.

  11. Weeks 6-10

Partner test with five small finance YouTubers or newsletter writers.

Written agreement that requires disclosure and your claims policy. For UK audiences, settle the FCA approval route first.

  12. Weeks 8-12

Publish a first track-record audit of willing participants or an anonymised group, method first and every pick shown.

Named audits only after counsel review.

YouTube · core

YouTube is the largest social source for both finviz.com and stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop), and 84% of US adults use it (Pew 2026). It fits screen-share walkthroughs of a tool on real data. Caution: YouTube does not monetise AI personas posing as human experts on financial advice (YouTube Help 2026).

Rhythm: One walkthrough a week and two Shorts a week cut from it. Put the source line and 'information, not a recommendation; capital at risk' inside the video, not only in the description.

FormatShareHow a good one is built
Screen walkthrough on real data35%0:00 the question and the date of the data. 0:15 the screen. Show each filter and why. Show the result list. Show two names that fail the screen and why. End on limits and what to check next. — Matches how screener and tracker users learn a tool, on the platform that sends the most social traffic to finviz.com (Similarweb Sep 2026).
Earnings or data explainer25%Open on the one number that changed. Show it in the filing. Show it in the tool. Say what it does and does not mean. No rating. — Plain explainers earn trust. No source measures earnings-week demand for tools, so test it.
Tool versus tool test15%The same task in three tools: set up a portfolio, run one dividend screen, export tax lots. Time each. Show price, data delay and sources. State your own conflicts first. — Buyers compare. Conflicts and paid links must be disclosed (FTC 2026; FCA 2024).
Track-record audit15%State the method before any result. List every pick in the period, winners and losers, with dates. Compare with an index over the same dates. State the limits. Recommend no one. — The FCA notes consumers trust finfluencers though advice can mislead (FCA 2024); an audit that shows every pick answers that.
Shorts10%One chart, one fact, one limit, 30 seconds. Last frame: source and date. — Shorts views for channels with 2,000-10,000 subscribers grew more than 200% year on year (Metricool 2026).

What to post about

  • How to use a screen
  • Portfolio tracking set-up
  • Dividend and income tracking
  • Earnings and event explainers
  • Track-record audits (method first)
  • Cost basis and tax-lot how-tos (jurisdiction stated)

Openings that work

  • 'Three filters, one result list, two names that failed. Data as of [date].'
  • 'I tracked [N] picks from [source] for [period]. Method first.' (only if you did)
  • 'This number is wrong on most free sites. Here is why.' (only if you can show it)

How people find you here: Titles with the task or metric ('dividend growth screener', 'portfolio tracker tutorial', '[tool] vs [tool]'), chapters, the data date in the first frame, and playlists by task. Use ticker titles only where you add your own data.

How a viewer becomes a client: Link to the exact screen or sample portfolio shown, tagged with UTM, plus a pinned comment. Ask for the sign-up after the first saved screen, not before.

Benchmarks: Channels with 2,000-10,000 subscribers: Shorts views grew more than 200% and long-form view duration rose about 13% year on year (Metricool 2026). Global average is 5,985 views per long-form video (Metricool 2026).

Avoid on YouTube

  • Never promise returns or imply a screen 'finds winners'. FINRA bars promissory and exaggerated claims and generally bars performance projections for broker-dealers (FINRA Rule 2210); the SEC Marketing Rule requires substantiation and fair treatment of risks in adviser ads (SEC Marketing FAQ, updated Jan 2026); the FCA expects a balance of benefits and risks (FCA 2024).
  • Never show past picks selectively. Show all picks or none (SEC Marketing Rule paragraphs (a)(6) and (d)).
  • Never show a backtest without dates, costs, assumptions and limits (SEC Marketing Rule (d)(6)).
  • Never run an AI-avatar 'advisor' as a monetised format. YouTube does not monetise AI personas posing as human experts on financial advice (YouTube Help 2026).
  • Never hide a sponsorship or affiliate link. Disclose in the video and audio (FTC Disclosures 101, 2026); in the UK the ASA wants ads labelled upfront (FCA 2024).

X · core

X is the second social source for finviz.com and stockanalysis.com (Similarweb Sep 2026, desktop).

Rhythm: One chart or data point each weekday, one thread in earnings weeks, and 20 minutes a day of replies with data.

FormatShareHow a good one is built
Chart of the day45%One image. The title is the question, not a claim. The chart comes from your own data, with the source and 'as of' date inside the image. Reply under it with how to run it in the tool. No view on what to buy. — Photo tweets pulled the highest engagement for Financial Services brands on X, with videos close behind (Rival IQ 2025 report).
Earnings or event thread20%Post 1: who reports and when. Posts 2-5: four numbers from the filing, each with its source. Post 6: what the tool shows (not a rating). Last post: sources, limits and 'information, not a recommendation'. — Earnings weeks are when investors look for tools (reasoning, not measured). A dated thread is easy to check and share.
Screen of the week15%State the rule first (for example 10 years of dividend growth and a payout ratio you define). Show the list the rule produced and the date. Show two limits. No ratings. — Shows the product's output without a recommendation.
Changelog10%What shipped, one screenshot, one real user question it answers. — Shows the product is alive and invites feedback.
Data replies10%Answer a question with a number, a source and a date. No tickers as ideas. — Builds a record of useful, impersonal answers.

What to post about

  • Charts from your own data
  • How a metric is calculated
  • Earnings and dividend calendars
  • Track-record audits (method first)
  • Product notes

Openings that work

  • '[N] of [index] companies [did X] this quarter. Chart below. Data as of [date].' (fill in real numbers)
  • 'The metric most free screens get wrong: [metric]. How it is calculated:'
  • 'We checked [N] years of [published picks]. Method first, results after.' (only with a published method)

How people find you here: FinTwit runs on replies, quote posts and lists. Reply with data under posts by analysts and educators, quote earnings posts with your chart, and keep a private list of 50 accounts you learn from. Use a cashtag only for the company shown in the chart.

How a viewer becomes a client: Profile link to the free screener or tracker. A pinned post with the best chart. 'Run this screen' links that open the saved screen, tagged with UTM.

Benchmarks: Financial Services brands on X: engagement rate roughly doubled and posting nearly doubled (Rival IQ 2025 report, median of 150 companies, engagement per follower). 31% of US adults aged 18-29 and 20% of those 30-49 use X (Pew 2026).

Avoid on X

  • Never post buy or sell calls, price targets or personal gains from the brand account.
  • UK: never invite people to invest without FCA approval. An unapproved invitation made in the course of business is a criminal offence, up to 2 years in prison (FCA 2024, FSMA s21).
  • Never claim 'AI-powered' unless the model is in the product. The SEC fined two advisers $400,000 in total for false AI claims (SEC Mar 2024).
  • Never buy followers or engagement (FTC Aug 2024).
  • Never delete a wrong chart. Correct it in public with the right data.

79% of US adults aged 18-29 and 64% of those aged 30-49 use Instagram (Pew 2026). Carousels took the lead in engagement for Financial Services brands on Instagram, even though Reels were posted more than twice as often (Rival IQ 2025 report). Use it for education and data, never for calls to invest: risk text has to sit inside the post, not only in the caption (FCA 2024).

Rhythm: 2 carousels a week. Stories only for product updates.

FormatShareHow a good one is built
Chart explained carousel60%Slide 1: the chart, with a question as the title and no claim. Slides 2-5: what it shows, how it is built, one limit per slide. Slide 6: source, 'as of' date, and 'information, not a recommendation; capital at risk'. Slide 7: how to run the same screen in the tool. — Carousels led Instagram engagement for Financial Services brands (Rival IQ 2025 report). The FCA says a promotion with risks only in the caption lacks prominence (FCA 2024), so the risk line lives on the slides.
Myth versus data25%Slide 1: a common belief as a question. Slides 2-4: dated data that tests it, with the source on each slide. Slide 5: what the data cannot tell you. — Fits an audience that distrusts hype and keeps the post impersonal.
How-to in the app15%Three screens: the question, the filter, the dated result. One sentence in the caption. — Shows the product at work without a recommendation.

What to post about

  • Chart of the week
  • How a metric is calculated
  • Myths tested with data
  • Tax-time and earnings-week explainers
  • Product how-tos

Openings that work

  • 'Does [metric] really predict [outcome]? We checked [N] years of data.' (use only real, dated results)
  • 'Three things this chart cannot tell you.'
  • 'How to find [type of company] in two minutes.' with the screenshot

How people find you here: Captions and on-slide text use the plain phrase people type ('dividend growth screen', 'how to track your portfolio'). Co-post with finance educators whose promotions are approved where required. Link in bio to one page with the same screen loaded.

How a viewer becomes a client: Last slide and bio link to a landing page that opens the exact screen or sample portfolio shown. Story links for product updates.

Benchmarks: Financial Services brands: carousels led Instagram engagement (Rival IQ 2025 report, median of 150 companies, engagement per follower). The text read gave no engagement-rate numbers.

Avoid on Instagram

  • Never put risk wording only in the caption or behind 'see more' (FCA 2024).
  • Never post price targets, buy or sell calls or 'beat the market' claims from the brand account.
  • Never reshare a customer's gains screenshot without checking it as a promotion; a firm is responsible for what it shares (FCA 2024), and third-party posts the firm adopts can become its own communications (FINRA 2026).
  • Never show a backtest as a promise. Label it hypothetical with dates, costs and assumptions (SEC Marketing Rule (d)(6) for advisers; FINRA Rule 2210 limits projections for broker-dealers).

How people find you here: Use each sub's search for 'screener', 'portfolio tracker', 'which app' and 'looking for a tool'. Answer in the thread, not by DM.

How a viewer becomes a client: A bio link and a useful history. Name your affiliation whenever you mention the tool.

Avoid on Reddit

  • Never post your product link in r/investing, r/stocks, r/wallstreetbets or r/dividends before reading each sidebar. The brief reports strict self-promotion rules; they were not verified here.
  • Never recommend a specific security as the brand.
  • Never use a second account to praise the tool. The FTC rule bans fake and undisclosed insider reviews (FTC Aug 2024).
  • UK: never promote an investment in a forum or chatroom where you have a commercial interest, unless the promotion is approved (FCA 2024).

Core channel. Established tools win on search and habit: stockanalysis.com gets 99.71% of its keyword traffic from organic results and 65.42% of visits direct, and finviz.com 78.39% direct (Similarweb Sep 2026, estimate). The pattern is pages with their own calculations, not scraped copies. The search phrasing below is typical and was not volume-checked.

ArticleSearches likeHow the winners are built
Data pages per ticker, ETF or metric (programmatic, with your own calculations)“[ticker] dividend history”, “[ticker] vs [ticker] stock comparison”, “[ETF] holdings”, “[company] earnings date”A table above the fold with the 'as of' date and the data source. Three to five plain lines on what the numbers show, with no rating or advice. Related comparisons. A 'track this' button. Every page needs a calculation or view the free sources lack. Launch with 20-50 strong pages, not thousands (reasoning).
Best tools and alternatives“best free stock screener”, “best portfolio tracker for dividends”, “finviz alternatives”, “seeking alpha alternatives”Criteria first: data sources, delay, coverage, price, exports. Then a table with last-checked date, who each tool is for, conflicts (affiliate links marked) and limits. Include competitors honestly.
How-to guides for one task“how to read a stock screener”, “how to track dividends in one place”, “how to calculate portfolio return xirr”, “how to find stocks with 10 years of dividend growth”A worked example on real, dated data, a template to copy, and a last step showing the same task in the tool.
Broker export and import guides“export trades from robinhood to excel”, “import fidelity transactions into portfolio tracker”, “how to export tax lots from schwab”, “trading 212 csv export portfolio tracker”One page per broker: steps with screenshots, a sample CSV, a column-mapping table and fixes for common errors. Update when the broker changes its format. Integration-led pages are a reasoned bet, not a measured one.
Tax-time and event guides“how to report stock sales on taxes”, “wash sale rule explained”, “tax loss harvesting how it works”, “how to track cost basis”The jurisdiction in the first line (US, UK or EU). Plain steps, the official source linked (for example the tax authority), a worked example. 'Not tax advice' as a last line only; it does not replace accuracy.
Track-record and trust pages“is [newsletter] worth it”, “[finfluencer] track record”, “how accurate are analyst price targets”, “do stock screeners work”Method first, then every pick with its date (winners and losers), compared with an index over the same dates, then limits. Show data; never call a named person a scammer. Start with willing participants or anonymised groups; named audits only after a counsel review.

When searches peak: General calendar, not source-checked: US broker tax forms arrive in Feb-Mar and the filing deadline is mid-April; the UK tax year ends 5 April; year-end tax-loss harvesting runs Nov-Dec; four earnings seasons a year start in mid-Jan, mid-Apr, mid-Jul and mid-Oct. Publish evergreen tax and event guides 6-8 weeks ahead and refresh every year.

Where businesses in this niche get featured and linked

  • Independent finance bloggers and YouTube educators who review tools (offer access and a data download, not a pitch)
  • Finance newsletters that list tools, and 'best tools' roundups (no 2025-26 numbers found; check referral logs)
  • Original datasets with a CSV download that journalists and bloggers can cite (reasoning; publish one per quarter)
  • Developer and quant communities for data and API tools (r/algotrading has recurring 'looking for a data source or API' posts, GummySearch Oct 2026)
  • Broker and aggregator 'works with' pages, for tools that import or sync accounts (partner; check referral-fee rules)
  • Investor-education sites and club resource pages (not verified; ask before listing)

The year in this niche

WhenWhat matters
Mid-Jan, mid-Apr, mid-Jul, mid-Oct (earnings seasons)[Unsourced general calendar] Large banks report first, and earnings weeks follow. Dated 'what changed in the numbers' threads and calendars fit these weeks.
January[Unsourced] New-year money goals: 'track everything in one place' and 'start investing' searches. Run the portfolio-tracker set-up content.
February to mid-April (US); 5-6 April (UK)[Unsourced] Broker tax forms arrive and the US filing deadline is mid-April; the UK tax year ends 5 April. Cost basis, wash-sale and export guides. Publish 6-8 weeks ahead.
November to December[Unsourced] Year-end tax-loss harvesting and dividend tracking. Black Friday: #blackfriday led engagement by a wide margin on X for Tech and Software brands (Rival IQ 2025 report), so plan an annual-plan offer.
Market shock weeks (sharp falls or rate decisions)Searches for tools and 'what should I do' rise (reasoning, not measured). Keep a pre-approved, claims-checked response kit: a data chart, a source line and a risk line. The FCA warns against repeated bombardment of promotions that exploits behavioural biases (FCA 2024).
From 2 Aug 2026 (EU)AI Act Article 50 duties apply per the Act's text: tell users when they deal with an AI system and mark synthetic content. Any delay was not checked (artificialintelligenceact.eu 2026). Relevant if your app has an AI assistant.

Partners who share your audience

  • Small finance YouTubers and newsletter writers: sponsorship or affiliate. They must disclose clearly in the video and audio (FTC Disclosures 101, 2026). For UK-facing promotion of regulated products the content must come from or be approved by an FCA-authorised firm, and a firm using affiliates must monitor them (FCA 2024).
  • Data providers and brokers: data feeds, account sync, export formats and 'works with' pages. Referral fees from brokers are a commercial interest (FCA 2024); check US broker-dealer and adviser rules with counsel before taking per-account fees.
  • RIAs and tax professionals who use the tool with clients: if an adviser features your tool or quotes a client's praise in an ad, the SEC Marketing Rule conditions on testimonials and endorsements fall on the adviser (17 CFR 275.206(4)-1).
  • Other tools that complement yours (tax software, planning tools): integration and co-marketing pages. Not verified; test with two partners first.
  • Investment clubs and finance educators (not verified): free seats in exchange for feedback and a dataset to cite.

Rules that apply

  • US, adviser status: a person paid to advise others on securities, directly or through publications or writings, or paid as a regular business to issue analyses or reports on securities, can be an investment adviser. Bona fide publications of general and regular circulation are excluded (Advisers Act s202(a)(11), 15 USC 80b-2). The Supreme Court read the exclusion to cover genuine publishers whose advice is impersonal, not tailored to a client (Lowe v. SEC 1985). A 'not financial advice' footer does not decide which side you are on. Personalised alerts or picks need counsel first.
  • US, SEC Marketing Rule (17 CFR 275.206(4)-1; compliance date 4 Nov 2022; staff FAQ updated 15 Jan 2026): for adviser advertising. No untrue or unsubstantiated claims, no unfair treatment of risks, no selective performance. Testimonials and endorsements need clear disclosures (client or not, compensation, conflicts) and a written agreement if the pay is more than de minimis. Gross performance needs net performance beside it. Hypothetical performance, backtests included, needs policies, criteria and assumptions, and risk limits. It binds advisers, so it matters if you are one or write ads for them.
  • US, SEC 'AI washing': on 18 Mar 2024 the SEC charged Delphia ($225,000) and Global Predictions ($175,000) for false claims about their use of AI, and for Marketing Rule breaches (SEC press release 2024-36). Say 'AI-powered' only when the model is in the product and does what you say.
  • US, FINRA (broker-dealers): Rule 2210 requires fair and balanced communications with no false, exaggerated or promissory claims; performance projections are generally barred except labelled hypothetical illustrations and approved analysis tools; testimonials need disclosures (FINRA Rule 2210). The 2026 oversight report cites weak supervision of influencers, misleading app promotions and nudges, and the need to describe AI offerings accurately (FINRA 2026 report). Third-party posts are generally outside the ad rules unless the firm adopted them or became entangled with them (FINRA social media topic page).
  • US, FTC: disclose any material connection (free access, affiliate links, fees) in the video or image itself, not only in a bio or behind a 'more' link (FTC Disclosures 101, 2026). No fake, AI-generated or undisclosed insider reviews and no bought followers (FTC final rule, announced Aug 2024).
  • US, paid stock promotion: it is unlawful to publish material describing a security, newsletters included, that an issuer, underwriter or dealer paid for without disclosing the payment and its amount (Securities Act s17(b), 15 USC 77q).
  • UK, FCA FG24/1 (Mar 2024): an invitation or inducement to invest, made in the course of business, must be communicated or approved by an authorised firm (FSMA s21); breach is a criminal offence with up to 2 years in prison. It covers social media, private groups on Discord and Telegram, and forums such as Reddit, and an affiliate link counts as a commercial interest. Each promotion must stand alone, give a balanced view of benefits and risks and keep risk warnings visible, not only in a caption or behind 'see more'. A disclaimer such as 'professional investors only' does not limit the audience. A firm using affiliates must monitor them. The ASA expects ads, affiliate links included, to be labelled upfront.
  • UK, Market Abuse Regulation Article 20: anyone recommending or suggesting an investment strategy must present the information objectively and disclose conflicts of interest (FCA FG24/1, Mar 2024, para 4.8).
  • EU, crypto: MiCA (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) has marketing-communication rules for crypto-assets. check it before promoting any crypto feature.
  • EU, AI Act Article 50: tell users when they deal with an AI system and mark synthetic content; the Act's text sets 2 Aug 2026 as the start. Any delay was not checked (artificialintelligenceact.eu 2026).
  • App stores: Apple says apps for trading, investing or money management should be submitted by the licensed financial institution (guideline 3.2.1(viii)) and highly regulated apps by a legal entity (5.1.1(ix)); binary-options apps are banned and CFD or forex apps need licences wherever offered (3.2.2(viii)); crypto apps have their own rules (3.1.5); false information is rejected and an 'entertainment' label does not cure it (1.1.6) (Apple App Review Guidelines 2026).
  • Paid ads: Google Ads requires financial-services verification in some locations, bans ads for binary options (educational sites included) and bans sites offering trading signals for CFDs, spread betting and rolling spot forex (Google Ads policy 2026). Paid ads are common in this niche; a small team should start with organic and the free tool.

Questions

Asked about investing apps and tools

What is the best marketing channel for investing apps and tools?

YouTube and X.

How often should investing apps and tools post on YouTube?

One walkthrough a week and two Shorts a week cut from it. Put the source line and 'information, not a recommendation; capital at risk' inside the video, not only in the description.

Is TikTok worth it for investing apps and tools?

Usually not at the start: 65% of US adults aged 18-29 use TikTok (Pew 2026), but no 2025-26 source found shows investing tools winning users there, and the FCA judges a dynamic promotion as a whole and expects a balanced view of benefits and risks inside it (FCA 2024), which is hard to meet in 15-second video (reasoning). Reuse a YouTube Short only if it costs nothing.
